XR, or extended reality, is an umbrella term that encompasses a range of immersive technologies that blend the physical and digital worlds. It includes:
- Virtual reality (VR) experiences that take place in a fully immersive digital environment
- Augmented reality (AR) experiences that overlay digital content onto the real world
- Mixed reality (MR) experiences that combine elements of both VR and AR, often through camera passthrough
MeshMap is most excited about accelerating AR content creation and consumer adoption, while also supporting VR and MR applications.
3D maps are the most important data source for location-based spatial apps and experiences. High precision and high coverage map data is necessary to support consumer XR. MeshMap believes that these maps should be open and available for everyone to use.
The most common use case for the maps will be in creating VR environments and assisting the design of location-based AR experiences.
MeshMap aspires to create the most creator-friendly tools for designing custom, location-based AR experiences and to grow strong, profitable distribution channels for them. Creators deserve a platform that will elevate their hard work to potential audiences, especially in the years before mass consumer adoption of AR glasses.
We are prioritizing support for the Meta Quest 3 and Magic Leap 2, with plans to expand to more devices in the future.
Yes. MeshMappers have the option to connect a crypto wallet to their account. Connecting will enable you to receive an NFT (non-fungible token) for each scan that you submit.
In the future, we plan to expand our uses of blockchain and crypto to empower MeshMappers to share in the ownership and rewards of the mapping network.
